photography workshop // seattle, wa
One cold & blustery–I mean freezing cold & blustery–day here in Seattle, a beautiful & talented photographer from the Great White North flew down for a one-on-one workshop with little old me. So one thing you should know about workshops with me, is that I really just use it as an excuse to eat my way through the city while talking about photography… seriously. And I found out that Jessica had never been to Seattle, so of course I then used it as an excuse to throw in a little touristing & sightseeing as well.
I think we had the best day! And I hope (hope hope hope!) she felt the same & learned a lot too!
A huge thanks to my northern neighbor Jessica for coming down to hang with me… and to our fun-loving models Phil & Heather! After modeling for us, Heather wrote a really beautiful blog post about what she learned about being in front of the camera, and the importance of being vulnerable & appreciating the small moments at hand… I’m so thankful for her honesty, and her gorgeous smile too!
A one-one-one workshop with me is all day (roughly 8+ hours long), starting with breakfast & ending with dinner (& drinks, if you please!), where I answer any questions you have about anything & everything… and the way I do my workshop is a bit unconventional. You see, I work from home for the most part, and I find inspiration in being outside, walking, and being surrounded by people; I’m a very social animal! The way that we’ll be together is the way that I work almost daily, by walking around, being in cafes (where I often love to work) & in restaurants, and talking all day. I don’t want this to feel like an interview or something… I truly want you to be in my environment, and feel like you can ask me whatever you want, whenever you want, all throughout the day.
In particular, I will cover:
– Shooting film/basic photography: metering, film choices, camera choices & editing choices and how they relate to your vision as a photographer
– Directing people to make consistently beautiful photos (we will have a couple for a photo shoot, or a family if that’s more your thing)
– Marketing + branding + pricing
– Creating an authentic business that you love
– Deconstructing your current business: what is working & what isn’t
-Portfolio Review
At the end of the session you will have:
– Actionable steps in a written plan to improve your business.
– A mini-session with me where YOU will be the subject. These photos can be used for your business or however you choose.
– A follow-up phone call within six months, to chat more about how your mentoring session has benefited you & what’s next.
And of course you get to hang out with me all day, which is always always fun! :)
Here is what Jessica had to say about her workshop with me:
“I can’t tell you enough how valuable my mentoring session with Catherine was for me. First of all she instantly made me feel at ease, like I had known her for years. I had lots of questions regarding film photography and I came away far more knowledgeable and confident in this area. Catherine had many tips for me during the demo shoot that she had planned for the day. I took away a lot of simple ways to make my own sessions better. I even got to be on the other side of the camera that afternoon. She did a session with me and I was so thrilled when the images arrived. She’s amazing! Her openness and honestly throughout the day was so appreciated and most helpful.
“In the end, when my work was critiqued, it was challenging and hard to hear at moments but extremely valuable. Catherine was personable, professional, knowledgeable, very thoughtful and went out of her way to create an amazing experience. It was a fun and informative day and worth every penny.“
So the verdict is in… I am super fun! And I can haz edumacate! If you’d like to schedule a one-on-one workshop with me (read: eat all day with me, take photos & talk about geeky camera & business stuff!), please email me at hello@catherineabegg.com !!!
Oh Catherine… you have no idea…or maybe you do by now, just how much I enjoyed my day with you. It was so incredibly valuable to me. Every time I hold my camera or post a session I’m remembering things you shared with me, ways to improve. I can’t thank you enough. You made the day fun and informative and challenging and fun… and did I say fun! Haha..Thank you!!!! xox
